Maye the man as the New England Patriots’ resurgence continues with routine win over the New York Jets
Maye starred as the Pats beat the Jets
Drake Maye inspired the New England Patriots to another win last night but the quarterback insists he is not surprised by the team’s turnaround this season.
The Patriots beat the New York Jets 27-14 and now have an NFL-best 9-2 record after winning eight successive games, a run that has propelled them to the top of the AFC East.
New England limped to 4-13 records in the past two years and their resurgence under coach Mike Vrabel has caught many people out but Maye is not one of them.
“I don’t think anything has surprised me,” Maye said. “When you put the work in, and we have good players and good coaches, you are going to get a result that you want.”

Maye can get better – Vrabel
Maye was again the star of the show against the Jets, finishing 25-of-34 for 281 yards with 1 TD and 0 INTs. He was serenaded with chants of “MVP” from the Foxborough crowd with Vrabel predicting there is still room for improvement from the 23-year-old.
The former Titans head coach said: “I would say his performance, in general, has been what we expect.
“We have high expectations for Drake. He has high expectations for himself. He’ll continue to improve. I know that he’ll stay humble through this all. We just have to continue to focus on the little things, operation, unforced errors throughout the offense. The only thing that really stops us is us offensively.”
Fields struggles again
Maye outshone Jets counterpart Justin Fields, whose struggles show no sign of easing.
After throwing for just 54 yards against the Browns last week, Fields was slightly better, managing 116 yards passing and 67 yards and a touchdown rushing.
“There are some good things,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said of Fields’ performance. “We’ve got to have some guys make some plays for him, too. There are some plays out there that our guys got to make for him.
“The one thing that really just sticks out is detail. That’s a box that we didn’t check off today. I have very high standards for our team in general.”
The Jets now sit at 2-8 after another dismal season.
