New York Giants @ Detroit Lions preview
The Detroit Lions’ (6-4) hopes of recovering from their 16-9 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday have received a boost with the confirmed absence of New York Giants (2-9) quarterback Jaxson Dart because of concussion protocol.
Jameis Winston deputized for Dart in the Lions’ fifth straight NFL defeat last Sunday, completing 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards and an interception by Evan Williams on third-and-six from the Packers’ 14-yard line with 36 seconds remaining in the 27-20 at home to the Green Bay Packers.
“The beauty of Jameis and the beauty of our group on offense and defense and special teams is our guys’ prep,” said interim Giants head coach Mike Kafka Kafka.
“They put the work in. They’re preparing themselves to play. Whether they’re a practice squad guy or they’re a backup in a primary role, they’re preparing and asking questions and detailing out their work throughout the work week.
“So it’s no surprise to me that Jameis is ready to go. I have full confidence in him, just like I did last week, and we’ll just keep on carrying on and Jameis will carry the torch for the group.”
Lions quarterback Jared Goff will be hoping to recapture his strong preceding form, having completed 14 of 37 passes against Philadelphia – a career-low 37.8% – and thrown an interception in a performance he called “no fun” and “frustrating”.
“You learn from it,” Goff added. “You try to find little bits and pieces you can get better from, just like any other tape that goes good, bad or indifferent. You just try to learn from it and get better.”
