Rangers vs Livingston match preview

With holders Celtic having been knocked out in the previous round, Rangers are now overwhelming favourites to win the League Cup, but this brings with it an added sense of expectation and pressure.

After a rough start, it’s been a pretty good week for Michael Beale, with the Gers having enjoyed back-to-back league wins, most-recently overcoming Motherwell 1-0 on Sunday; Cyriel Dessers the match-winner.

In-between, the Light Blues began their Europa League campaign by defeating Real Betis, courtesy of Abdallah Sima’s goal from mere picometers out last Thursday.

Last month, Rangers actually went 1-0 down to Greenock Morton at home in the previous round of the League Cup, only for quick-fire goals from Dessers and Danilo to spare their blushes.

The Gers are record 27-times winners of this competition, although the most-recent of these triumphs came in 2011, beaten in five semi-finals and two finals, including last season, subsequently.

So, will Beale’s team cruise through this clash and be returning to the National Stadium on the first weekend of November?

This time round, David Martindale’s men topped their group before ousting Ayr United in the second round, with Joel Nouble and Cristian Montaño on target at the Tony Macaroni Arena in that one.

In the Premiership this season, Livi have only won once so far, with Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of ten-man Celtic seeing them slide down to tenth.

Just last month, Livingston were swatted aside 4-0 at Ibrox, with a similar outcome expected here.
