Sorare Premier League football preview: Manchester City vs Newcastle

Erling Haaland made sure it was normal service resumed as far as Manchester City were concerned on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, netting twice to help them to a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Burnley, before they lifted the Super Cup during the week.

With such results and performances so familiar, it was Newcastle who caught the eye more over the weekend, dispatching Aston Villa 5-1 at St James Park to suggest last season’s achievements were no fluke.

Eddie Howe saw two of his summer signings strike in a dominant performance that is likely to tempt Sorare users into going big on their attackers.

The game will be part of Gameweek 398 on Sorare Football, and 101 Great Goals has broken down the key statistical takeaways ahead of the game.

Manchester City vs Newcastle Sorare tips

Manchester City

Phil Foden

One of the major talking points from City’s opening day win was the injury suffered by Kevin De Bruyne, which could keep him out until the end of the year. With Ilkay Gundogan leaving in the summer, this had already left them slightly short on bodies in midfield and now Phil Foden has been thrust firmly into the spotlight. Primarily used out wide in previous seasons, it has long been expected that Foden would become one of the central creative players at City and with two starts in the middle so far this season, everything looks like it will start to go through the England midfielder. This could be the year he really dominates and if he does, you should get on board early.

Rodri

Everyone knows Rodri is a midfielder of the highest quality, protecting the defence while also providing assurance on the ball. However what he has added recently is goals – he scored the winner in the Champions League final and also netted against Bayern Munich – thanks to the extra licence he is given to go forward by John Stones advancing into midfield. While we don’t think these attacking returns can be relied upon, Rodri remains an excellent asset in Sorare

Rico Lewis

Newcastle

Alexander Isak

Despite injuries hampering his debut season in the Premier League, Isak showed glimpses of his quality with 10 goals in 17 starts – some of which came from out wide – and started this season on fire, with two well-taken goals against Aston Villa. If he stays fit this season, he could be one to keep an eye on because he has all the quality in the world and a very high ceiling. He is a risk to rotation, especially when the Champions League starts, but he is someone who could certainly cause the City defence problems.

Anthony Gordon

Gordon’s first six months at Newcastle certainly didn’t go to plan, making just four starts and scoring one goal after his move from Everton. However a summer spent starring for England’s under-21s and winning Player of the Tournament as they won the Euros appears to have done him the world of good as he hit the ground running on Saturday with one assist having started the game on the wide left. He faces competition from Harvey Barnes but he is flying right now.

Harvey Barnes

Barnes might have to wait his turn after only joining Newcastle from relegated Leicester in recent weeks, but he showed his qualities with a well-taken goal and assist after coming off the bench on Saturday. He only got 22 minutes on the pitch but it was enough for a score of 82 and while it will not be enough to displace Gordon in the starting XI, he will be knocking hard on the door.
